BI Connector Server Edition Goes Web: Oracle Fusion to Power BI, Minus the Admin Hurdles

For many organizations, making Oracle Fusion Cloud data available in Power BI is a tough challenge – especially when IT teams are stuck managing server access, manual refreshes, and rigid ETL pipelines.

The largest transit agency in Southern California faced this head-on. They had modernized HR with Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM but struggled to connect it with their on-prem enterprise data warehouse and Power BI dashboards. Even with BI Connector solving the integration, one issue remained: publishing and automating semantic data models and reports required Power BI Gateway Admin support.

The Roadblock: Manual Publishing Was Slowing Everyone Down

The BI developers relied on BI Connector Server Edition, which is installed on the same machine as the Power BI Gateway, to create the Oracle Fusion DSN for automated refresh, but the process was a bit clunky:

• Remote login to the server and publish the Oracle Fusion DSNs (OR)
  
• Coordinate with the Power BI Gateway Admins to publish a new Fusion data source.

The result? Delays, dependency, and lost developer time.

The Fix: BI Connector Server Edition as a Web Application

To remove this bottleneck, we rebuilt the BI Connector Server Edition as a web application  – a browser-based UI to publish Oracle Fusion data sources without any bottlenecks.

Now developers simply:

1. Open a browser and login to the BI Connector Server Edition
2. Configure Oracle Fusion data connections
3. Publish to Gateway – all without requiring any help from the Power BI administrators.
