Tableau - OBIEE

Tableau to OBIEE 11g/12c/10g – BI connector v2.2 is released

BI connector solves three  major problems for organizations using Tableau – OBIEE:

  1. Users and IT spend significant amount of time (and therefore money) to bring OBIEE data into Tableau.
  2. Manual export/import of data via Excel or SQL ETL from EDW to Tableau results in human errors.   Verifying consistency of results between OBIEE and Tableau reports is a huge effort.
  3. Organizations are unable to reuse the investment in OBIEE.

BI connector solves the above problems by providing direct integration from Tableau to OBIEE metadata in Subject Area and Reports. It saves time for users and IT, reduces human errors, and maximizes the value of your Tableau and OBIEE investment.

We are happy to announce the availability of BI connector v2.2.  It is packed with features and bug fixes focusing on ease of use, security, and extensibility.

The following new features are available in BI connector v2.2

Display of user-friendly OBIEE report column names in Tableau

To classify OBIEE reports as complex is an understatement.  Each report consisting of hundreds, if not thousands of lines of SQL statements pulling data from various folders and then aggregating it by applying sophisticated business logic.  It takes days and weeks to build OBIEE reports.  So it makes sense to reuse this logic from Tableau.

BI connector Reports connector seamlessly integrates this query with Tableau so that you can connect live to OBIEE reports, execute the query in OBIEE, and then apply additional filters in Tableau for visualization and analysis.  OBIEE report is presented as a Table and columns in OBIEE report become columns in Tableau.  Columns in OBIEE reports consists of two components: (1) a user-friendly display column name e.g., Category_Code and  (2) typically a complex column formula (e.g., CASE statement to derive the correct Category_Code).   When you visualize an OBIEE report with columns that is derived from complex case statements,  BI connector will automatically display the Column display name instead of the column formula in Tableau  so that you are able to easily identify the column and use it in your visualization.  You don’t need to decipher the column formula to figure out what the column means.

Native Support for Oracle Access Manager (OAM) SSO

Oracle Access Manager(OAM) is widely used as the single sign-on solution for OBIEE.   In BI connector v2.2, we are happy to introduce the BI connector SSO module with native support for OAM SSO.  If you use OAM as the SSO module, you can connect securely to OBIEE from Tableau without requiring any changes in OBIEE or OAM.   Follow the steps below to connect  to your OBIEE application that is secured using OAM SSO.

An extensible SSO module and custom SSO integration service

BI connector v2.2 includes an extensible SSO module that makes it easy to integrate with most SSO providers.   If you use an SSO provider other than OAM for securing OBIEE and need integration from Tableau/BI connector to OBIEE, contact us at [email protected].   Using our extensible SSO module, we can quickly integrate BI connector with your SSO service for a nominal Professional Services fee.
