BI Connector v3.8 is Released

Over at BI Connector, we continue to work towards improving our products in order to give you the best experience when it comes to visualizing OBIEE data. That is why we are happy to inform you that BI Connector v3.8 has just been released.

BI Connector v3.8 offers two new features: an easier connection from Power BI to OBIEE using DirectQuery and visualizing OBIEE subject areas with Qlik Sense. Let’s dive into the details of the new features in BI Connector.

Connect from Power BI to OBIEE using DSN and DirectQuery

BI Connector in DirectQuery mode allows Power BI users to query live real-time data from OBIEE. Similar to Tableau’s live data connection, DirectQuery mode is a query-then-import model whereas ODBC mode is an import-then-query model.

BI Connector in DirectQuery mode allows Power BI users to query live real-time data from OBIEE. Similar to Tableau’s live data connection, DirectQuery mode is a query-then-import model whereas ODBC mode is an import-then-query model. Learn more about DirectQuery and how it compares to ODBC approach in this article.

In the previous version of BI Connector, users had to manually enter the OBIEE connection information every time for DirectQuery connection. This method was very cumbersome and time-consuming. However, the new BI Connector v3.8 has solved this problem by allowing users to connect to OBIEE using the pre-configured DSN name. Connecting to OBIEE via DirectQuery is now easy and can be done in 3 simple steps:
