Oracle GoldenGate  (for Fusion Cloud)

Extraction via Fusion APIs and BICC, surfaced through OCI GoldenGate Data Transforms or as part of the FDI bundle

Lands data in OCI or ADW intermediate staging, then requires additional hops to reach Microsoft Fabric

Generic ETL primitives. Mappings, source schemas, and incremental logic remain your build

Typically weeks of topology design, source mapping, and end-to-end testing

Custom configuration per pipeline, tuned per source object

Quote-based, typically bundled inside broader Oracle licensing including OCI consumption

Requires OCI as an intermediate landing zone before Fabric

When GoldenGate Is The Right Call

We don't try to win every replication conversation. GoldenGate has legitimate strengths:

  • Sub-second latency for cross-system transactional replication between databases
  • Heterogeneous database-to-database replication outside the Fusion BI use case
  • Existing GoldenGate footprint your team wants to extend

Why Architects Choose BI Connector For Fusion To Fabric

1

Fewer moving parts in the pipeline. One tool, one license, one owner.

2

Pre-built Fusion-aware templates cut weeks of mapping work.

3

Predictable cost. No Oracle license bundling required to reach Fabric.

4

Production proof in Microsoft Fabric across multiple Fusion customers.

"We evaluated three options including Oracle's native solution with GoldenGate. The consultants said from the beginning it was not an option. BI Connector was the easiest to implement and easiest to maintain. It's point-to-point, incremental refresh, and from that perspective it's perfect for us."

How BI Connector Works

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the BI Connector licensed?

A specific number of BI Connector Super User (or Desktop) edition and Server edition licenses will be provided based on the plan purchased. The additional Super user and server licenses will be charged separately.

Can the Desktop Edition be used to publish data sources and dashboards to Tableau Server or Tableau Online or Power BI Cloud Service?

No. Publishing and sharing of data sources and dashboards to Servers or Online requires BI Connector Server Edition license.

How is the Server Edition licensed for Tableau Server?

If the Tableau Server is setup on a 10-core (or more) machine, you need an enterprise license of BI Connector Server Edition which will offer you the flexibility to deploy BI Connector on all servers for all your users at an attractive cost.

If you have a department installation (8 CPU core license) of Tableau Server, then you need a 8-core server edition license of BI Connector. There is no restriction on the user count.

If your Tableau Server is licensed based on the number of users (instead of CPU cores), the BI Connector licensing is also based on that user count. Please note that all the Tableau Server users will be counted as BI Connector users.

How is the Server Edition licensed for Tableau Online?

The BI Connector licensing for Tableau Online is based on the number of Tableau Online users. Please note that all Tableau Online users will be accounted as BI Connector users.

How is the Server Edition licensed for Power BI Cloud Service via On-Premise Gateway?

For Power BI Service, the BI Connector licensing is a server-based (CPU core based) unlimited user license of BI Connector Server Edition. The number of CPU cores in the machine used for the On-Premise Gateway is considered. A minimum of 8 CPU cores must be licensed.

If you have an enterprise installation (10 or more CPU cores) of On-premise Gateway, then we recommend an enterprise license of BI Connector Server Edition which will offer you the flexibility to deploy BI Connector on all servers for all your users at an attractive cost.

Does the Server Edition work with the Power BI Report Server?

Yes, the BI Connector Server Edition works seamlessly with the Power BI Report Server.

For the Report Server, the BI Connector licensing is a server-based (CPU core based) unlimited user license of BI Connector Server Edition. The number of CPU cores in the machine used for the Report Server is considered. A minimum of 8 CPU cores must be licensed.

If you have an enterprise installation (10 or more CPU cores) for the Report Server, then we recommend an enterprise license of BI Connector Server Edition which will offer you the flexibility to deploy BI Connector on all servers for all your users at an attractive cost.
