FAQ

Quick Q&A on BI Connector!

How does BI Connector move Oracle Fusion data into Microsoft Fabric Warehouse?

BI Connector extracts Oracle Fusion data and works with Fabric Data Factory pipelines to automate delivery into your Fabric Warehouse. Pre-built pipeline templates support scheduled full and incremental refreshes without custom Oracle extraction development.

Does BI Connector replace Microsoft Fabric?

No. Fabric continues to orchestrate pipelines, store data in OneLake, and serve Power BI. BI Connector replaces the Oracle Fusion extraction layer, handling Oracle connectivity, incremental refreshes, retries, and Fusion-specific extraction logic.

What Oracle Fusion data can BI Connector extract?

BI Connector supports OTBI analyses, BI Publisher data models, BICC PVOs, Fusion Query Vault, custom Fusion SQL, Oracle Fusion base tables, and FDI data models. Support for Data Extraction Tool business objects is in the immediate roadmap.

Data engineers can select the extraction approach that best fits their reporting, analytics, and data warehouse requirements while delivering the resulting data into Microsoft Fabric.

What is the Fusion Query Vault?

The Oracle Fusion Query Vault is a library of ready-to-use SQL queries for common Oracle Fusion reporting and data requirements that can be used as data sources in BI Connector. It includes queries across areas such as Finance, HCM, and SCM that can be used as a starting point for reporting, customized for specific requirements, and run through BI Connector to access Fusion data.

Can we use our existing Azure Data Factory pipelines instead of Fabric pipelines?

Yes. BI Connector sits at the Oracle Fusion extraction layer, so it works with either orchestrator. If your team is mid-migration and still running Azure Data Factory, ADF can land Fusion data in your Fabric Lakehouse or Warehouse today, and you can move to Fabric Data Factory pipelines later without changing the extraction layer.

Should we load Oracle Fusion into a Fabric Warehouse or a Lakehouse?

BI Connector supports both. Choose a Lakehouse when Fusion data is a raw bronze layer you will transform downstream, or when your team wants Spark and notebooks over it. Choose a Warehouse when the data is your governed reporting model and your team works in T-SQL.

Why load Oracle Fusion into a Fabric Warehouse instead of connecting Power BI directly?

A Fabric Warehouse provides a centralized, governed repository that supports enterprise reporting, historical analysis, application integration, and multiple analytics tools without placing additional reporting workloads on Oracle Fusion.

Can BI Connector bring Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI) data into Fabric?

Yes. BI Connector extracts both Oracle Fusion and FDI data models, letting you combine them with other enterprise sources in Fabric without rebuilding your existing Oracle analytics foundation.

How is this different from BICC extracts?

BICC extracts generate file-based exports that require staging, decoding, and additional processing before data reaches Fabric. BI Connector automates Oracle Fusion extraction and delivery through Fabric pipelines, reducing file management and custom integration complexity.

Does BI Connector support incremental refresh?

Yes. BI Connector supports an initial full load followed by automated incremental refreshes that process only new and changed Oracle Fusion data, improving pipeline efficiency while reducing warehouse processing time.
